I wanted to let you all know about a middle-school art contest that spectrUM is collaborating on. We’d love if any of your students might be interested in submitting artwork! It’s a quick timeline, but we are hoping to get a few more students aware of this contest.
The spectrUM Discovery Area will be hosting a special Endangered: The Nearly Forgotten Storyboard Art Exhibition in our museum this spring, in collaboration with the International Wildlife Film Festival and the Endangered Podcast, which features short stories about 7 endangered species.
We are asking Middle School students in Montana to listen to one of the short podcasts (they are about 10 minutes long) and then develop a storyboard that features that species and tells a story about that species. Professional storyboard artist Vincent Lee has made a few excellent short videos (links are in the attachment) to teach kids how to develop a storyboard. Students will then create their own storyboard and email their submissions to Lizzie with the International Wildlife Film Festival. Submissions are due March 25. I’ve included Lizzie in this email (lizzie@wildlifefilms.org).
We have a celebrity jury (including Noah Watts, a Montana actor who is a member of Crow tribe and descendant of the Blackfeet Nation) who will help select winners (there are cash prizes available!). Student artwork will be on display at spectrUM in the Missoula Public Library from April 22-May 7.
We’d love to have any of your students participate! Please let me know if you or any of your students have questions, and please share with others!
