About the Student Advisory Group:

The PHS Library Student Advisory Group is made up of 35 students. This is a voluntary club whose mission is to make the library the best it can be, a welcoming and inviting environment for all students and staff to enjoy and use. There are 9 committees who are working on a variety of library projects.

Meetings are once a month, check with Mrs. Ellis for meeting updates: Next will be after Winter Break; January 9th

Stop by the Library and talk with Mrs. Ellis for more information about this group

Committee Descriptions:

  • Collection Management - This group's purpose is to familiarize themselves with the current print collection and  make quality suggestions for improving our print collection from magazines to books.

  • Lunch Activities/Monthly Events - This group's purpose is to brainstorm and design monthly lunch time activities in the library.  The chess tournament was October's activity.  November and early December will be Trivia Tuesdays. In the last two weeks in December we will show holiday themed movies.  No plans have been made yet for January.  This group has also requested a variety of board and card games be made available for students to play during lunch time in the library.  A huge game order was placed and should be ready for students in the next couple of weeks.

  • TAG -This stands for Teen Advisory Group. This group of students are our links to the North Lake County Library.  They attend events and meetings at both locations in order to create a partnership between the two facilities.

  • Dungeons and Dragons - This group has not officially started but we will begin our own PHS D&D Club right in the library.  This club has already expanded beyond the core group as many students have inquired on our official start date and asked to be added to the group.  Our goal is to be up and running before Winter Break.

  • Book Display Decorations -  This group is responsible for forming small monthly work groups to develop themes for decorating the serpentine book shelf.  October's group decorated the shelf with a spooky touch of Halloween.  November's group focused on Native American Heritage month with an emphasis on cooking and recipes for Thanksgiving.

  • Book Fair - This group is researching different book fair options for high school students.  We hope to host a book fair in the spring.

  • Library of Things - This committee has worked to bring something new and original to the PHS library.  We are providing materials that aren't books or magazines. We are in the process of creating 6 tote bags that can be checked out by our students and staff.  Each tote bag will have fun items for students to use. We have several art totes and one baking tote.  Once we get them ready to go, we will advertise and see how it goes.  We are all very excited for our Library of Things!

  • Prize Box/Book Box - Students want to have a mini free library (give one, take one) for students and staff. We have not started on this task yet.  Students also want to have a Library Prize Box, but we have not determined the logistics of how to hand out prizes from the box.  This committee is still a work in progress.

  • Community Board -  This committee is also a work in progress. Students want to create some sort of display so that all school events can be advertised in the library.
