Art Curriculum

This is an entry-level course designed to provide a range of artistic opportunities for students to develop their skills in both the making and understanding of art. Areas of emphasis; the fundamentals of art, learning and using art terminology, applying creative processes, developing artistic skills, art history, and making and justifying judgments about aesthetic value and quality of art.

Entry Level: 9
This course is an extension from Art Fundamentals and is designed to strengthen the students drawing abilities and conceptions in design. Experimentation with a wide variety of subject matter and more challenging assignments in drawing, painting, sculpture, and ceramics will be offered. Focus will be on the 6 principles of design.

Entry Level: 10
This class focuses on 2-dimensional visual problems addressing the elements of art and principles of design. The course is designed to strengthen the students drawing, seeing, and creating abilities. Areas of art history will be addressed and explored. Mediums include graphite, charcoal, ink, colored pencils, watercolor, and acrylic painting. This class is an extension of the Art Fundamental and Draw/Design classes. To qualify for the class you must have passed Drawing/Design class with a B or better.

Entry Level: 10
The first quarter is a mixed-media involving a variety of 3-D sculpture media & techniques. We will explore how the elements and principles of art apply to 3-dimensional media. The second quarter of the class is devoted to learning new building and firing techniques in clay and how the elements and principles of art apply to ceramic compositions. To qualify for the class you must have passed Drawing/Design class with a B or better
