What Happens After Completion of the Course

Montana Motor Vehicle Division (MVD)

MVD Website:

Upon completion of Traffic Education, the student will need to complete 50 hours of supervised driving time over the course of 6 months and then will need to setup an appointment to test with the MVD. All students need to set the appointment as a driving test. At the appointment, the student will find out if they have been waived by their driving instructor.

Driving Hours and Log Required

Students are required to present their driving log. This can be either in a digital format or on paper.  They must complete 50 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours  at night.

Requirement for Testing Vehicle

Students going for testing must provide their own vehicle that is in good working order. The car must also have insurance, or proof of self-insurance from the State of Montana. These will be checked before the state representative will start the test. If these are not met, the student will need to reschedule the test, which could result in a longer wait time to get their license. The permit only lasts 12 months, so don't wait!
